SAN DIEGO (June 30, 2014) – H.G. Fenton Company is bringing a much desired retail element to western National City through the renovation of a portion of Southport Commercial Center which already includes In-n-Out Burger and Denny’s at I-5 and Miles of Car Way. Approximately 2,000 square feet of the building at 404 Miles of Car way will be home to a new drive-thru Starbucks, with the balance of the building available for other desirable amenities.

H.G. Fenton Company provides facilities and services to about 200 businesses in western National City and is committed to providing quality workplace experiences. The renovation is in response to tenant requests for additional retail services within walking distance to reduce daily vehicle travel times and costs.  With this project, H.G. Fenton Company also is able to enhance one of the key entrances to National City off the I-5.

“This renovation is a very exciting project that provides easy access to retail services for surrounding businesses and residents,” said Brian Gates, an H.G. Fenton Company commercial portfolio leader. “The building is being redesigned to complement the neighborhood and create an inviting amenity the entire community can enjoy.”

H.G. Fenton Company said the center’s modern design by KMA Architecture reflects its proximity to the bay while creating an inviting experience that fits the lifestyles of area patrons. Its community orientation includes spacious patio seating areas for people to relax and enjoy during the day. The center also features a number of exterior eco-friendly features including low water use landscaping and energy efficient LED exterior lighting.

The new Starbucks, set to open in September 2014, exemplifies the coffee company’s commitment to serving its customers with innovative concepts and green-building strategies. The new store will be LEED certified.

“Starbucks is a great fit for this building, with a renowned track record for creating experiences that are locally relevant and honor the integrity of the neighborhoods, they will complement the existing businesses and also help in attracting additional amenities to the area,” said Gates.

The general contractor for the project is Dempsey Construction.  Leasing efforts for the available spaces in the center are being handled by Ron Pepper and Chris Hodgman, both of Retail Insite.
