SAN DIEGO – H.G. Fenton Company announces that Geoffrey (Geoff) Swortwood has been promoted to vice president of commercial building development where he will lead the company’s industrial development strategy and implementation.

H.G. Fenton Company is one of San Diego’s oldest and largest real estate development and acquisition firms. Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the company owns and manages over 3 million square feet of industrial space throughout San Diego County. It also owns and manages 11 apartment communities totaling over 2,800 residential units.

“Geoff will work closely with H.G. Fenton Company senior management to ensure that as we begin our next 100 years of service, our mission of creating quality places for people to work and live in San Diego is realized,” said Mike Neal, H.G. Fenton Company’s president and chief executive officer.

Swortwood has been a key part of H.G. Fenton Company’s commercial management, development and acquisitions team for the past 14 years, most recently as director of commercial development.  In his new position, Swortwood will identify and create new market opportunities, grow the company’s commercial portfolio through new building development and acquisitions that are consistent with its strategic plan, and oversee project management activities to ensure that new projects are consistent with the H.G. Fenton Company standard of quality.

“H.G. Fenton Company is strategically focused on serving San Diego companies by providing them with a variety of speculative and build-to-suit space options to meet their needs in key locations throughout the county,” Swortwood said.  “Our long-term ownership commitment is reflected in well-built and well-managed work environments our tenants can be proud of.”

Swortwood currently is processing plans for 350,000 square feet of industrial space at H.G. Fenton Company’s Carlsbad Raceway Business Park, a 1.5 million-square-foot business community that will add over 5,000 new jobs through phased development over several years. Additionally, he has 125,000 square feet of space under development at the 1-million-square-foot Fenton Technology Park in Sorrento Mesa, which is also being built in phases and provides a variety of multi-tenant and build-to-suit space options. Swortwood is implementing a 105,000-square-foot expansion of Carlsbad Corporate Center to meet the area’s growing demand for multi-tenant space, and is processing plans for 40,000 square feet of space at Carlsbad Research Center II.

Swortwood received a bachelor’s degree in economics and organizational studies from Pitzer College, and a master’s degree in business from Fuqua School of Business, Duke University.
